Chapter 22
It all happened so fast. I didn’t have time to process it. I stared, first directly at him, and then to my pinned hands before my eyes trailed to his open buttons, revealing a trail of muscles leading down into his pants. My head tilted back slightly, and I raised an eyebrow.
“What do you think you’re doing?” I nodded at him
With one simple shove, I pushed him off me and turned the tables around, so now I was the one above him. My hand wrapped firmly around his neck.
“It seems like you have a death wish,” I said, my voice low, a frown etched on my features, staring at him like he had gone mad..
He smiled, easily holding my wrist and taking me off him as though it was nothing
“Eh, good to see you can protect yourself if the need arises, but that cannot always be the case,” he said, sitting up.
“What are you talking about?” I asked, irritated.
“You really shouldn’t go around offering a space next to you to anyone.”
“How often do you think I do this?” I almost laughed in amusement at his foolishness, “I didn’t offer space, you fucking followed me here, get the narrative right before anything.”
You are next to me, but you don’t want to know the amount of tools I have on me,” I was getting irritated now, I don’t know why I thought me laying next to him would help him ease his nightmares, or why Leven wanted to ease them to begin with.
“If you don’t want to sleep, then fine. Get off. I snapped at him.
“No, no, no,” he raised his hands in defeat, “thank you for offering,” he laid on his back staring at the ceiling for a while.
“You really are something.” he said in an inaudible whisper, almost like he was murmuring to himself.
“What do you mean?” I asked, glaring at him, shifting in bed so I was facing him, not caring that it crumpled the sheets beneath me.
He leaned closer. “I’m right next to you, I’m not sure your husband would like you to be this close to other men, he already looks like he hates me.”
I blinked.
He thought Max was my husband? That would make sense why he didn’t question me having a daughter. I didn’t think he wouldn’t add the timeline up but it made me glad he wasn’t going to be interfering in Helen’s or my life.
I frowned. “I mean, since you know it, why are you following me around?”
He stopped talking and stared at the ceiling for a while before finally breaking the silence.
“Is that how you were during our relationship?” he asked, his tone serious.
I ignored him, not wanting to engage.
He continued looking at the ceiling. “I just want to know because I never saw this side of you,” he added, his voice almost hesitant.
I rolled my eyes. He never gave me a chance to show it, how would he have seen it?”

Chapter 22
“Since we’re asking personal questions, why haven’t you married Elly yet!” I shot back
He opened his mouth like he was about to say something, then thought better of it. Good night, he muttered, turning to lay
on his side
I rubbed my eyes, ignoring him, and continued with what I was doing
I’ll be out of here first thing tomorrow morning. I don’t have time for this I mombled.
The next morning. I woke up to find him sitting by the table. He’d already ordered breakfast from enom service.
I
“What are you doing” I asked, watching him shouldn’t you be preparing to take your leave
He crossed one leg over the other, “well. Boyer announced theirs would be another meeting today, and that something’s come up, he flipped his wrist to check the time on his watch, “we have ten minutes left”
“What?” My eyes widened and 1 came fully awake, “what do you mean?” I tossed the blankets off of me, jumping to my feet. “why didn’t you wake me up?
“You seemed like you were having so much fun sleeping” he said, shaking his head.
“Have you lost your mind!” I hurned to find an extra gown in the closet, my fingers raking quickly through my clothes.
I selected a black one I’d never worn and had packed as extra. I was heading to the bathroom when I caught my reflection in the mirror.
I stopped for a mini second, my eyes widening as I saw my messy hair all over the place and my eyes still swollen from sleep. I looked over my shoulder to see Neil’s gaze fixed on me.
I held my breath. I didn’t see the need to be conscious of how I looked around him.
It didn’t matter.
I headed into the bathroom and returned in my towel.
Till wait for you in the car, Neil said with a small nod.
Once he was out, I raced to dry my hair and Pat some simple make up
My dress was a fitted one that hugged all of my curves and with the way Neil’s eyes lingered on my body. I knew I looked as hot as I always did.
He helped me unlock the door to the passenger seat, stared at me for even longer, he opened his mouth to say something but then decided against it, he continued to drive to the venue.
“What?!” A lot of the other attendees said at the same time.
“Yes, he wants you all to go to an island for a week to experience first hand life from their point of view,” the announcer repeated herself.
While they all continued to murmur at the shock all I could think about was I about to be stuck on an island for a while week with Nell
