It wasn’t until I was outside the hospital that I realized this was truly happening. I almost forgotten Max was next to me until he cleared his throat.
I flinched, shifting my gaze to him.
“I’m sorry, you just seemed like you needed help back there,” he spoke. I stared at the man in front of me, not as tall or handsome as Neil but his dark hair and eyes made up for it.
He was the last face I saw before I was in that water, so surely he must have been the one to save me, “thank you,” I smiled, “no one’s ever stood up for me like that before”
I noticed how his eyes creased into worry and I added, “are you really a divorce attorney or did you just say that to get me away from-” I paused, wondering what title to refer to Neil as now, “that man.”
He chuckled a little. “If I said I lied, would you toss me away for being an asshole?” He raised a knowing brow
I smiled despite the situation. “honestly, no.”
“That’s impressive, but I am one,” he extended an hand, “Max is the name, it’s cold outside, I can drive you wherever you need to go.
I looked back at the hospital and realised a part of me had been waiting for Neil to walk out that door, to keep chasing after me but he wasn’t here, so his sudden abnormal affection must have been temporary, probably the guilt of leaving me to drown as he saved his lover.
I looked back at Max and realized he was still waiting for my response and so I stood upright, “I need to home.”
“Alright,” he started to lead the way, “my car is just parked around here.”
I realised how crazy I must seem, barefoot and in a hospital gown, following a complete stranger. But as I walked behind. Max, the thought of him saving me and caring enough than anyone else ever did, I knew I could trust him.
He had a black Range Rover parked a few metres away and when he helped me into the passenger seat, I felt even more comfortable to know I was fine with him.
“Why were you here?” I asked him after giving him directions to the Devon mansion.
“I couldn’t help but wait around to find out how you were doing, my father is business partners with Deli so it was just fate that I happened to be at that event.”
My heart swelled even more. Not only did he wait around after saving me, he genuinely cared to know I was fine.
“Can you draft me a divorce agreement?” I asked him.
“Like right now?” He briefly glanced my way before resuming focus on the road.
“Yes please,” I nodded fast, staring out the window, my heart racing. I really was going to end things with Neil, after all these years, just like that.
“I will have to park and draft one out.”
Td appreciate that.”
I noticed the tears in my eyes threatening to fall, I had loved that man from the moment I first met him, but he left me to

she like I was nothing. I was only twenty–five. I had so much ahead of me. I hurried to blink the tears away, this was for the
best
I has packed my bags at the speed of light after handling the signed agreement to one of the house staff
Max was waiting for me outside the mansion and as soon as I had hauled my bags into the trunk. I was well on my way.
“Where are we beaded now” He asked me.
“Wherever, just away from here.” I told him.
Max took off at a high speed and soon enough I was away from that life, Neil, being Mrs Devon, being the wife that was overlooked. My phone suddenly beeped in my hands and I stared at the screen, it was Neil.
1 frowned at it, if he wanted to yell about how unimportant I was, then there was no point. I hung the phone up and
switched it off.
I booked you this hotel because it’s the most secured one for elites, Max told me after I’d gotten a room with the best views
of the city.
Tm far from an elite. I smiled at him, “but I truly appreciate all of this,” I looked around the huge room with nothing but a bed and fancy cutleries. Til take the time to think of a way forward”
Here’s my number in case you need me for anything. I’ll be heading back to Los Angeles in three days, so let me know what you decide to do Max offered.
“Thank you so much
As I went to bed. I didn’t bother to cry, I just needed to know my way forward.
So much for an elite hotel. I scoffed. “how can the showerhead be broken?” I groaned to myself as I headed to the receptionist to complain the next morning since the room service option was taking forever.
I stopped in my tracks when I saw the guests standing by the counter,
In a red dress. Ella had a big smile as she received the key from the receptionist and my face went cold when I saw who was standing next to her.
Thank you so much, we will have a great time, Ella said, before turning to Neil.
My eyes widened as she raised her heels, to connect their lips.
My feet wobbled and I took a step back, staggering and almost falling to the floor. As though he could sense my presence, Neil’s eyes suddenly found mine, his lips still connected to Ella’s.
