When Lily woke up, she looked at me with grief–stricken eyes.
I stared at her for a long time, about to speak.
She cut me off: “Don’t say it. Please don’t say it.”
I shook my head and said it anyway: “When you’re discharged, let’s go file for divorce.”
She closed her eyes and laughed bitterly, murmuring: “It’s my fault. It’s all my fault.”
I sat with her in the hospital room all afternoon. She cried the whole time.
“The baby is gone. I feel so awful.
“I know you’re very angry. You won’t forgive me this time.”
“I just wanted to have a meal. I kept telling him we should leave early.”

“I told him not to drive so fast. I was so scared, but he wouldn’t listen.”
“He knew I was pregnant. When the accident happened, he even turned the steering wheel towards me.”
“I regret it so much. I shouldn’t have disobeyed you. I really regret it…”
Unfortunately, she realized too late, and paid too high a price for it.
This time, no one tried to persuade me not to divorce.
Everyone knew that for Ryan’s sake, she had repeatedly ignored me, and now she had even lost our child because of it.
No one had the right to talk to me about forgiveness.
Lily’s family also fell out with Ryan’s family. Lily’s mother went to Ryan’s house and cursed him out, she ruined her daughter’s marriage and caused Lily to miscarry.
She said Ryan did it on purpose, with bad intentions.
Ryan’s family was apologetic at first, but when pushed too far, they started cursing back. They said Lily repeatedly seducing Ryan, and still being restless even while pregnant.
Ryan himself never showed his face.

Lily’s mother’s high blood pressure flared up from the anger. She was bedridden for several days.
She relayed all this to Lily: “Look at what kind of people the Ryans are! That Ryan boy has hurt you so badly, and person! I told you last time to stay away from him, but you wouldn’t listen. Look what’s happened now!”
