Chapter 4
I received a message from Amber.
[Harriet, I’m sorry, I sent it to the wrong person. I meant to send it to Bradley.]
[I’ll withdraw it now.]
But even after half a minute, she didn’t withdraw it.
I stared at the ultrasound picture for a long time. My eyes stung, and tears fell uncontrollably.
She was already two months pregnant.
Two months ago, Bradley had just proposed to me. He said we would get married at the end of the year.
I turned off my phone screen. I didn’t want to see these upsetting things anymore.
After dealing with the wound on my calf, I got discharged and went home.
When I arrived, I saw Bradley busy in the kitchen. A delicious aroma filled the air.
It smelled like soup.
I went to the kitchen and saw him putting soup into a thermal bottle, obviously about to go out.
I thought of the photo Amber had just sent me.
I immediately knew the soup was for her.
When Bradley turned around with the thermal bottle and saw me, he froze.
He looked at my leg with guilt.
He said, “Amber is alone in the hospital. I’m worried about her, so I’m going to check on her.
“Oh, I made some soup for you. Try it.”
I looked at the pot. It was just leftovers and scraps.
I asked, “I was at the scene today too. Did you see me?”
As expected, his face turned pale.
He stammered, “No. I didn’t see you.”
I watched his clumsy acting and suddenly felt tired.
I turned and walked to the bedroom.
“Then forget it,” I said.
I didn’t know when Bradley left or when he came back. After he returned, he seemed like a different person.

He took care of me meticulously.
Half a month later, Bradley suggested a road trip to Teburn.
I agreed.
When I saw Amber in the car, I wasn’t surprised at all.
Bradley, however, looked flustered.
He hurriedly explained, “Harriet, let me explain. Amber said she hadn’t been to Teburn and wanted to go. I thought it would be safer to bring her along.”
He looked at me anxiously, worried that I wouldn’t believe him.
I nodded calmly.
From the passenger seat, Amber shot me a smug look.
Throughout the trip, Amber caused trouble constantly.
Bradley would only say she was just a young girl, asking me to be patient with her, even though I wasn’t much older than her.
As we approached our destination, Amber insisted on seeing the sunrise from the mountaintop.
Bradley, unable to resist her pleas, went with her.
I was left alone in the inn.
That night, an earthquake hit Teburn. Trapped under the rubble, I suddenly had a thought.
“System, are you there?” I called out to the system that hadn’t appeared for a long time.
A moment later, it responded, “Host, I’m here. Do you need help?”
The mission was over, and the system had promised to grant one request. I hadn’t used it yet.
Now I wanted to use it.
I said, “I want to leave. Can you help me fake my
death?”
