Chapter 9
Laze covered my eyes with his hand.
I laughed and pulled his hand down, holding it tightly. “Okay, I won’t look!”
He cupped my face with both hands and stared into my eyes.
“Harriet, you said you’d only ever like me,” he said.
That was what I had told him in Teburn. I didn’t expect him to remember for so long.
I got lost in my thoughts and didn’t reply for a moment.
His expression turned anxious.
“You’ll only like me, right?” he asked, his voice growing softer and less confident.
I snapped back to reality. “Of course. I’ll only like you. I already promised you, didn’t I? Once things here are settled, I’ll go back to Teburn with you. Trust me, okay?”
Hearing my reassurance, Laze relaxed and nodded with satisfaction.
He said, “Your ex–boyfriend is so annoying. He keeps sending flowers, but he’s too stingy to buy expensive ones. Such a cheapskate.”
I couldn’t help but laugh. He had improved so much that he even knew words like cheapskate.
I nodded, not wanting to discuss Bradley any further.
That evening, I went to a restaurant with Laze as planned,
When I made my escape, I had only thought about leaving. I didn’t consider my friends.
They were worried and upset about me.
I returned this time to meet them one last time.
When I opened the private room door, a couple of my friends sat there, arms crossed.

I held Laze’s hand and sat across from them.
Trying to lighten the mood, I said, “Why the long faces? Don’t you want to see me?”
One of them ran over, pushed Laze aside, hugged me tightly, and cried loudly.
I had no choice but to calm her down first.
It took about ten minutes to settle everyone’s emotions.
“You still haven’t explained yourself. What’s going on?”
“And who is this guy?”

I sipped my coffee and replied, “It’s all in the past. And this is Laze, my boyfriend. He’s Teburnan.”
I avoided giving them too much detail.
I continued, “I came back to see you all because after Laze and I go to Teburn, we won’t have many chances to meet again.”
Though reluctant, my friends respected my decision
After the gathering, Laze held my hand as we left the restaurant.
The moment we stepped out, he looked as if he was on high alert, staring intently at one spot.
I followed his gaze to look over.
Bradley was sitting in a car, the trunk open and filled with flowers.
He held a bouquet in his hands.
“Harriet, I’ve liked you for a long time. From the moment I first saw you, I knew I was done for,” he said.
Those were the same words he used when he confessed to me years ago.
Back then, I thought it was romantic. Now, I only felt disgusted.
I said, “Bradley, after being with me for so long, you know my personality well. You know I can’t tolerate betrayal. And you’re not here to sincerely ask for reconciliation. You just want to protect your reputation, don’t you?”
My words tore through his facade.
Bradley was embarrassed but still tried to salvage the situation.
Just then, a figure rushed up.
