“Studying abroad reaches you many practical skills,” Edgar replied while continuing to chop vegetables, not missing a beat
His knife skills were precise, showing no sign of the pampered lifestyle typical of the rich. Ever since that incident, he had rarely eaten out,
The sunlight spilled over his broad back, bathing the kitchen in a golden warmth.
For a moment, Talia felt as though she had been transported back to her childhood, when her parents would cook together in their kitchen. Her father Gerard Miles, just like Edgar, would chop vegetables, all while responding to Wynne’s every word
“My dad was a really good cook, too. Mom always pretended to help him just so she could get the first bite of whatever he made,” Talia said.
“Your parents must have been very loving
Too bad.”
They had both been gone for many years. Talia’s gaze dropped as a
sa wave of sadness sank her heart
Edgar noticed the sorrow in her voice. He turned to look at her, seeing the “little beast” curled up in the comer, eyes red, abandoned and lonely
He didn’t ask her about it, though. Instead, he simply served a plate of fragrant pasta and placed it gently in her hands. “Denner’s ready”
Talia held the warm pasta, and somehow, the coldness she had been feeling seemed to fade away.
Edgar had already started bringing the dishes to the table, so she quickly followed him
Talia picked up a piece of bacon and tasted it. Her eyes instantly lit up. She thought, It is delicious!
“Where did you learn to cook like this?” she asked, genuinely curious.
“Tim self–taught” Edgar replied with casual indifference..
Talia smiled in admiration. “No wonder you’re a genius–even in cooking
In her previous life, she had taken cooking classes for ages, but her skills had barely reached a passable level.
As he watched her eat with such enthusiasm, Edgar’s gaze softened with a hint of amusement. Then you should eat more.”
“Sure!” She was so hungry that the barely even paused to talk, and her fork never stopped moving. She was genuinely enjoying the meal, and it felt like pure happiness.
After dinner. Talia cleaned up the dishes and then excused herself to leave.
However, just as she reached the door. Rolly suddenly blocked her way, jumping up at her, a little hall in his mouth. His bright eyes were locked onto hers, silently asking her to play,
Talia sighed and scratched the golden retriever’s head. “Aren’t you scared of strangers? Be careful, someone might steal you away!
“You’re not a stranger,” Edgar said,
“What?” Talia froze for a moment, looking down at Rolly. A wave of strange familiarity washed over her.
But as she tried to remember, dizziness suddenly hit her. Her mind flashed back to her first encounter with Edgar, along with his cryptic words. A possibility began to form in her mind.
“Edgar,” she said, her gaze unwavering as she studied his face for any hint of recognition. Have we met before?”
Edgar’s face remained as expressionless as ever. He simply stepped forward, gently separating her from Rolly “Go home.“”
She thought, “Maybe I am overthinking it. After all, Zenith Giry and Sampton City are thousands of miles apart. How can we have crossed paths!
Talia shook her head slightly, waving goodbye to Rolly “Thanks for the dinner”
As she closed the door behind her, Rolly immediately darted into the room. Moments later, he returned, holding a worn–out perfume in his mouth, which he carefully placed at Edgar’s feet. A faint fragrance of orchids still lingered on it.
Edgar picked up the perfume and handed it back to Rolly. “She doesn’t remember us.”
Since their lives had gone in separate directions, there was no need to dwell on the past.
