Chapter 14
Talia scoffed. “So this is why you’re skipping your grandmother’s birthday banquet?
“Talia!” At the sound of her mocking tone, Edric’s handsome face instantly darkened.
Talia thought, “Embarrassed and pissed off? Let him stew in it She quickly ended the call, leaving him with nothing but a dead dial tone.
Edric stared at the phone, a cold expression settling over his features.
“Edric, can we go to this restaurant!” Nina snuggled up to his back, pressing her soft body against him, trying to tempt him.
In reality, when she had tried to seduce the unconscious Edric, she hadn’t been able to follow through
But Edrie didn’t know that. He believed it was his fault that she got pregnant. Ever since then, he’d been overly concerned about her health and hadn’t touched her.
Nina knew Talia still held a place in Edric’s heart, no matter how small. As long as she didn’t pull Talia completely out of his heart, she wouldn’t be able to find peace
Edric stood up and dialed his assistant. “I’ll have my assistant book a table. We’re going now!
Nina’s smile faltered, “Didn’t we agree on tomorrow?”
Tomorrow’s Grandma’s birthday, I can’t go with you.”
“Edric…” Nina pouted, trying to argue, but Edric placed a firm hand on her shoulder. His voice came out cold, sharp, and final, carrying an undeniable weight. “Be good, don’t make a scene”
Under his piercing gaze, a chill ran down Nina’s spine. In just one year, he’d transformed from the kind, naive man she once knew into someone far more calculating and impenetrable.
Now, in front of him, she often found herself breaking into a cold sweat
Nina quickly forced a sweet, obedient smile. Fine, the night view at Cloud Restaurant is beautiful too
Late that night, Talia finished going over the details of her divorce agreement with her lawyer and printed it out
In the agreement, she asked for nothing except the formula that could save the Russell family. She considered it repayment for Sirena’s years of care and support, as well as for the help she had given to the Wells Family
The next evening. Talia took the divorce agreement and headed to the Russell family.
As she approached the door, she overheard Janice Russell on the phone. “Talia? She’s nothing but a low–class nobody, like a lide lapdog always doing whatever I uy!
“My brother’s so unfortunate, marrying a woman like her. Maybe I should buy some scorpions and put them in her bed, just to scare her out of her
mind.
“Don’t believe me? Just wait until she shows up. I’ll make her wash my feet and livestream it for you all!”
As she heard this, Talia’s heart sank.
In her previous life, she’d worked so hard to please Edric–and by extension, the entire Russell family.
Janice always acted so sweet toward her, calling her with an overly familiar tone and constantly making unreasonable demands.
Talia naively thought that Janice was being kind to her, so she did her best to accommodate her.
It wasn’t until one night, when she stayed over at the Russell family, opened the covers, and found her bed covered in scorpions, that she realized Janice’s “sweet” facade was nothing but a cruel deception.
She had never seen her as a person–just a tool to be used. Talia thought, ‘A face so innocent, but a heart so malicious.
Talia furrowed her brow and pushed open the door.
Janice quickly ended her call and pretended to greet her sweetly. “Tilia, you’re back!”
