Chapter 8
Just as
was about to step inside, a sharp, pitiful meow reached her ears from nearby.
She turned her head and saw a tiny, newborn kitten hanging g from a tree branch, its wide, helpless eyes fixed on her.
“Don’t worry, I’ll save you. Talia set down the things she was carrying and rushed over to the tree to rescue the kitten
The dense branches blocked her view, and just as she reached up to help, Edgar emerged from the Wells family house and strode toward the Maybach parked on the roadside.
He
into the car and settled into the back seat, leaning against the plush leather. His usually sharp features showed a slight trace of fatigue.
“Mr. Binder, should we head to the mountain villa for a rest? We can resume our search for the miracle doctor tomorrow, Eden suggested
Edgar nodded slightly. “Drive”
As the luxury car pulled away, it passed by Talia. The rear window slowly rolled up, and for a brief moment, both she and Edgar exchanged a glance, only for the glass to rise completely, severing their connection.
Talia quickly pulled her gaze away. She thought. That feeling of familiarity–what is that about?” But she didn’t give it much thought.
“Go find your mom,” she murmured softly as she gently placed the kitten on the ground and picked up the gift she’d brought for Curtis, heading toward the Wells family.
As soon as she walked in, Perry and his family greeted her with exaggerated smiles.
Before they could exchange pleasantries, Adele grabbed her hand and began her usual act of playing the victim. “Talla, our beauty salon’s in a bit of financial trouble. Could you talk to Edric and ask him to lend us some support!”
“Support?” Talia’s expression instantly grew cold.
Since her parents had died in the shipwreck and Terry had passed from the grief, Perry had seized control of the Wells family’s pharmacy business. He also took their parents‘ shares and assets, all under the guise of being her legal guardian.
If it hadn’t been for Sirena’s protection, she and Curtis would have been left abandoned.
And on top of all that, Perry was a gambling addict. He had lost the family’s once thriving network of pharmacies and now only had a small clinic
left.
“Yes!” Perry, oblivious to her change in mood, continued his sob story. “It’s our fault–we couldn’t protect your grandfather’s legacy. Now all we have left is this tiny clinic. Talia, you have to help preserve what your grandfather worked so hard for?”
She thought, Here we go again In her past life, they’d used this same tactic to pressure her into begging Edric for money.
She still remembered how Perry had gambled away the family fortune and refused to buy medicine for Curtis when he was in the ICU. She had stood outside the operating room, calling Edric, pleading for him to save Cartis, for the sake of their marriage.
His
is voice had been cold, detached, and all he’d said was “Use your kidney to save your brother,”
After she donated her kidney, her own life had come to an end.
It wasn’t until her dying moments that she learned from Nina that after marrying, Edric had become the CEO of t immediately began to take his revenge on her
the Russell Group and
He had quietly sabotaged the Wells family, and with Perry’s gambling and incompetence, the family’s business had crumbled,
By the time Perry had forced her to ask Edric for money, he had made his demands clear–step by step, leading her into a trap.
Talia still remembered the times she had begged so desperately, and the mocking, disdainful look Edric had given her. All of that had been because of the Wells family.
She subtly pulled her hand away from Adele and said coolly, “You inherited Grandpa’s legacy. It’s up to you to protect it”
Adele’s face immediately twisted with anger. “What do you mean by that! Just because you’ve married into a wealthy family, you think you can
“Don’t forget how much money we’ve spent taking care of your sickly little brother! You ungrateful bitch, do
you
have any
conscience?”
At the mention Curtis, Talia’s expression turned cold and sharp. “If it weren’t for you, Curtis would never have fallen ill You’re the ones who ruined him! You should take responsibility!”

Adele was taken aback by her sudden fierceness. She thought. This girl has always been gentle and easygoing–how has she suddenly become so
forceful?
Perry quickly intervened, trying to smooth things over. “Yes, yes, we
responsibility for Curtis’s illness. But the treatment requires so many
expensive medicines, and we’re running a bit tight on funds at the moment…”
Talia thought. ‘Still asking for money!‘
Talia shot a cold look at Perry. I’m divorcing Edric soon, so I won’t be the cash cow anymore. If you think my brother’s a burden, I’ll take him with me today!”
“Don’t!” The moment Perry heard her mention taking Curtis, his face went pale. He quickly shifted his tone. “What do you mean, burden! We’re family! No matter how much it costs, Ill take care of Curtis.
