Chapter 334
In an instant, all eyes were glued to Fenwick’s phone.
“This live stream connection isn’t random, is it? It’s directly targeting the Drayton family.”
“They didn’t mention that, but why isn’t he saying anything? Is he planning to forfeit this opportunity? Or is he afraid Elysia’s coming back for revenge?”
“The dead cannot return to life. Those who take their own lives will face sevenfold retribution and be denied the cycle of reincarnation.”
The godfather’s abrupt remark lit Caellan’s fury like a match to gasoline.
He immediately released the two he had been choking and lunged at the godfather instead. “You jerk! What the hell are you talking about?
“You’re the one who deserves suffering! You’re the one who won’t reincarnate! Believe me! I’ll strangle you to death right now!”
Fenwick seized the moment to glance at the screen, silently thinking, ‘I have five minutes. Though the Elysia on the screen feels unfamiliar to me, this is the closest I’d ever been to her.‘
The thought made his heart race so violently it felt like it might leap out of his chest.
“Elysia, where are you right now?” Fenwick spoke in a soft, careful tone, as though afraid to startle the girl on the other end of the connection.
Melissa’s face first showed impatience and irritation, but soon after, she tilted her head. The deep color of her eyes revealed a glimmer of excitement. “Elysia is my name.”
“She liked the name, so she begrudgingly decided to answer his question.
“I’m inside a robot body right now.“”
Her answer left everyone stunned.
[Wait. Isn’t Elysia supposed to be a virtual AI? She actually has her own body?]
[Could it be that glowing Elysia we’ve heard about?]
[Oh, that makes sense! She must’ve built a life–sized robot to live on in her place!]
Fenwick’s mind was overwhelmed to the point of blankness, unable to process anything except fragments of the crowd’s reactions.
When he caught the last part of her answer, he couldn’t help but blurt out, “Elysia, do you have your own consciousness? Wait… Tell me… Do you still remember me? Where are you? Let me bring you home, okay?”
Fenwick abruptly stopped himself. His fear had yanked his reason back into place. He couldn’t risk destroying this fragile hope he’d found.
‘A robot body is good, Fenwick thought. ‘She won’t get sick. She can live for a long, long time. Long enough for me to spend my life making up for the mistakes I’ve made.’
He continued musing, ‘If I’m going to find Elysia, should I bring a gift? Robots probably like oil… wait, no… she’s not a car. Maybe electricity? But how do I even bring that?‘
Melissa now went by the name Elysia, and if anyone called her by the wrong name, she’d likely be annoyed.
Elysia let out a cold laugh. “My memory card doesn’t have a single trace of you. All it contains is me and a traitor who’s already dead…”
“As for where I am…” she drew out the last word, savoring the tension before finally saying, “On the mountaintop.”
With that, the five–minute timer expired. The screen went dark, and the livestream abruptly ended.
The confused audience was left scratching their heads, but everyone around Fenwick turned their gaze toward the mountaintop. It was only a few thousand feet away.
For the first time, Fenwick felt the favor of Lady Luck. “We’re this close? No wonder my heart’s been racing. It’s not fear. It’s excitement.
“I’m coming, Elysia,” Fenwick muttered, his voice trembling as he broke into a run, his figure resembling an awkward but determined monkey

climbing the stairs.
Laughter rippled through the crowd as they looked at each other.
.
“If an ordinary person could just possess a robot so easily, what would all these so–called masters even be here for?”
“Hard to say. That robot looks so realistic, though. Fine, let’s go check it out ourselves.”
The crowd began moving again. Nearby, Torin remained kneeling on the ground, his eyes deep and stormy, his palms bloodied from his nails digging into them.
Caellan wasn’t faring much better. Even though he knew the dead couldn’t come back to life, he couldn’t help but hope. What if? Possession could be possible, right?‘
“Caellan,” Torin’s sudden voice startled him, causing him to loosen his grip on the godfather, who promptly escaped, throwing out another cryptic remark. “All things are impermanent. Life comes with death. Nothing lasts forever.”
In anger, Caellan rolled up his sleeves, ready to chase after him, but Torin suddenly grabbed at his pant leg.
“What now? If you want to kneel and pray, do it yourself! Don’t push me, or I’ll kill you right here,” said Caellan.
Torin’s face twisted with pain as he gritted out. “My legs are weak. Help me up.”
