“Dane?” I called as I jolted up to my feet, I never expected him to be there. I didn’t want him to hear this, at least not like this.
Dane walked into the office slowly, his usual stance and stamina gone, he looked weak, broken… in his eyes I could see that he was devastated.
Evelyn got up from her chair, “Fix this,” she told me. She turned to Dane and said, “I’ll take my leave now.”
Dane moved closer to the desk and he placed his hands on it, his eyes not once leaving mine.
I swallowed as he parted his lips to speak but he closed it back and shut his eyes as he gritted his teeth.

I looked away. “I am asking myself the same question… did I really know you all these years when I thought I did.
Dane walked around the desk and stood beside me, “I would never hurt you… not physically or emotionally.”

He shut his eyes and looked away. Yeah… I guessed right.
“Why did you raise your hands to me when I slapped you this morning… you were going to hit me back weren’t you?”
Dane shook his head, he raised his hands again and I flinched, but he didn’t hit me, he only held my arms and pulled me closer to himself.
“There,” he said, eyes locked in mine.
I gulped, “Was this what you wanted to do this morning too?”
Dane nodded and I closed my eyes as my chest heaved. I felt so relieved. My Dane wasn’t turning to a monster.
Dane kissed my forehead and I pushed him off, “Not yet… I need an explanation as to why you had been down there late at night.”
Dane breathed out sharply, “I know I shouldn’t have gone, but I had gone to the kitchen to get a jug of water because I was thirsty, I happened to hear her screaming for water and there was no guard around so I went there and handed her my water.
I furrowed my brows. “Then why was she naked?”
Dane sighed. “The water slipped on her dress and she took advantage of that to take her dress off, she held my chest and as I was to remove her hand you walked in and saw it.”

I remained unfazed staring at Dane. I knew that was the truth, I could see it in his eyes. I messed up, I could have just listened to him a bit more earlier.
“Believe me babe… I would never lie to your face,” Dane said as he squeezed my arm.
“Where is she now?” I asked.
“State prison,” he blurted out and my jaw dropped.
The state prison is where notorious criminals are being held. Kaida is tough but she won’t last there a week.
“Why?” I managed to ask.
“She caused you pain… I had to punish her.”
My eyes watered as I looked up to him.
And here I was punishing you and myself just because of a misunderstanding.
“I love you… I don’t want you to think of me like that,” Dane said.
