Chapter 15
Travis couldn’t bgure out why Winona had Prescott cooking for her, but the special treatment they enjoyed at Regal Heights Hal made him feel superior to everyone else.
bining with Winona at the Regal Heights Hotel was a double win for him–it was a chance to show off and a boost to his arial starling
It seemed like a key that unlocked doors to the influential People in the industry, just by seeing his photo with Prescott, assured he had a powerfid family behind him.
Winona caught a glimpse of the greed in Travis’s eyes. She lowered her gaze, hiding her cold sarcasm behind a mysterious
She knew that if she didn’t give Travis a little of what he was after, he wouldn’t be willing to stand in the scorching sun, waiting for Morgan and Felicia with 365 roses in hand.
Carrying 305 roses was no easy task. Standing in the blistering heat with those flowers all day might not be as tough as climbing stairs on his knees, but it was enough to exhaust Travis, who was accustomed to a life of luxury.
Ten minutes in, just as Winona had expected, Travis was at his limit.
Sweat streamned down his face as he turned to her, his voice pleading, “Winona, can we find some shade to wait in? I’m going to get sunburned. You know how important our appearance is in this business”
His arms ached from holding the roses, and the thirst was killing him. The heat was unbearable; he felt like he was on the verge of heatstroke,
Winona shot down the idea without hesitation, “Nope, waiting somewhere cooler would hurt them,” she said. “If you get sunburned, just use some face masks tonight”
Travis quickly retorted, “Those masks won’t work miracles.”
With a friendly pat on his arm, Winona reassured him, “I’ll take you for a proper skincare session. No big deal, a bit of sun won’t hurt you
The pat felt more like a punch, and Travis winced, his face turning pale with the pain. He gritted his teeth but managed to keep his smile. “I should really put these roses down; they’re getting heavy,” he suggested.
“No way! These flowers show how much you care about me. If you put them down, does that mean you don’t love me anymore?” Winona shook her head and gave him a suspicious look. “You’re not trying to ditch our love, are you?”
“Absolutely not,” Travis insisted, his eyes softening as he looked at her. “I could never stop loving you, no matter what.”
Winona beamed at him. “You’re the best, Travis” She then glanced over as Morgan and Felicia were slowly ascending the stairs. “Don’t stress. Aunt Morgan and Felicia will be done soon.
Travis exhaled softly, relieved, and Winona caught it with a silent chuckle. She pulled out her phone, tuning out Travis as she began playing a game,
After two hours, Travis was feeling hot and a bit wobbly, still holding onto the roses. He stared at Winona, who was busy playing under the sunshade “Winona, didn’t you say they’d be done soon? Why are they still stuck on the stairs?”
Winona kept her head down, focused on her game. “I don’t really know. Maybe they’re taking their time to show how sincere they are.”

Feeling dizzy, Travis sighed. “I’m really at my breaking point. Why don’t we just go to Regal Heights Hotel and wait for them there?
“Not a chance. Winona replied firmly. “Aunt Morgan and Felicia have worked so hard. If we’re not here to greet them, they’ll be really upset.
Travis wiped the sweat off his brow and squinted into the glaring sun. He wobbled a bit and muttered weakly, “I’m tapped out here…
Winona’s face tightened. “I figured you were tougher than this. Aunt Morgan and Felicia aren’t bellyaching, but you’re here ready to throw in the towel. How am I supposed to trust you to look after me once we tie the knot?”
She gave Travis a cold, scrutinizing glance and said, “Let’s get one thing straight. I don’t want a guy who lacks stamina.”
Then, with a frown, she shifted her focus to the 365 roses. “Check you out, you can’t even hold these right. Are you saying you’re not into me anymore or something?”
Noticing the fury on Winona’s face, Travis quickly pulled himself together, standing tall as he adjusted the crooked roses, a grin on his face as he said, “Winona, I’m just messing with you.
“I was trying to get you to chat with me instead of being glued to your game all the time.”
‘Man, this chubby critic has the audacity to talk about stamina! Of course, she’s good and comfy under the shade, with a fan going and a cold cola in hand. I’ve been sweating it out in the sun for two hours. It’s only natural I’m beat, he thought to himself.
Winona glanced at Travis, who was putting on a tough act, and smiled with satisfaction. “That’s what I’m talking about. I love a man who’s strong and full of energy.”
Sweat was streaming down his face, and Travis gave Winona an awkward smile. “Whatever makes you happy.” Then, with a hopeful look at her sunshade and fan, he asked, “Winona, mind if I share your sunshade and fan for a sec?”
“Travis,” Winona said gently, “this sunshade and fan are pretty tiny. There’s barely enough space for one person. We can’t really share them. You love me so much, and you’re so strong. You wouldn’t make a sickly person like me struggle for them, would you?”
“You’ve got me there,” Travis replied with a smile that masked his annoyance. Trying to sound caring, he added, “I love you too much to see you get sunburned.”
‘Damn it, he thought. ‘She’s so self–absorbed, dropping comments like that. Now I’m stuck pretending I don’t need the sunshade and the fan. If I say I do, she’ll twist it into me not loving her enough.‘
Winona beamed. “I always knew you’d have my back.”
Travis gritted his teeth, silently fuming at Winona and everything about her, but he maintained a caring facade. “Go for it, play your game,” he encouraged. “I’ll be here waiting for them.”
“Thanks, babe,” Winona chirped, diving back into her game without a second thought. Travis, meanwhile, was left standing under the scorching sun, feeling utterly miserable.
In the CEO’s office at Langford Group, Matthew, who wasn’t exactly thrilled about his job, snatched up his ringing phone and got straight to the point with Todd. “Spill it!”
Todd didn’t waste any time. “Winona’s with Travis at New Beginnings Church. They’re-”
But he didn’t get to finish. Matthew slammed the phone down, his face pale as he slammed his fist onto the desk.

The solid wood desk took a massive hit, leaving a huge dent. Matthew’s already injured hand started gushing blood, but he seemed to barely notice the pain. Snatching up his phone, he swiftly blocked Winona’s number and wiped her from his WhatsApp contacts.
Winona had gone to see Travis again, just as Matthew had suspected. ‘I should have known better than to trust her. I’m done with her lies, he thought to himself.
