The girl in front of me, with her sallow complexion, looked pitifully fragile yet determ to face death.
But what she didn’t see was Beckett, whom she was instinctively protecting, looking me with a deathly pale face.
I twisted the bracelet I had just bought on my wrist and walked past them without eve glancing their way.
How unlucky.
I can’t even take a walk without seeing people I don’t want to see.
Shortly after I got back home, Beckett pushed open the door and came in.
Seeing me, his cold expression finally showed some other emotion: “Cora, let me explain.”
I looked at him calmly: “Alright, go ahead.”
The truth was, no matter what he said, I wouldn’t care.
But seeing that I didn’t seem to be furious and was willing to communicate, he finally let out a sigh of relief:
“I knew you wouldn’t jump to conclusions.”
I laughed coldly inside.
He seemed to organize his thoughts for a moment before sincerely saying: “Things aren’t what they looked like.”
I just looked at him silently, not saying a word.

“Once when I was injured, I met her on the way to the hospital. She helped bandage me up and accompanied me to the hospital.”
He glanced at me cautiously and continued:
“After that, the next few times I went to the hospital to change my dressings, I happened to run into her by coincidence.
“As it happened, she was a nursing student, so I thought it would be good practice for
her”
Hah, too many coincidences become deliberate.
I didn’t think Beckett, as a grown man, wouldn’t understand this.
