After Vivian left, Beckett looked at the strokes I had marked, feeling extremely strange.
He couldn’t put his finger on why, but it felt very out of place.
He instinctively looked at me: “Cora?”
I turned to look at him expressionlessly.
Beckett paused: “There’s really nothing between Vivian and
me, I…”
I didn’t want to say much to him, so I picked up my chopsticks and started eating.
Seeing that I didn’t seem to want to talk, Beckett fell silent.
After dinner, he saw me sorting through the things I had brought back from Grandma’s house and suddenly said: “By the way Cora, why are there so few things in your room? Didn’t you prepare a lot of stuff for the wedding before?”
Seeing that I didn’t respond, Beckett seemed inexplicably flustered for a moment: “I was thinking, since we’ve already submitted our marriage license application, we could start decorating this place bit by bit.
“I saw you had already bought decorations before, why don’t you bring them out and I’ll start putting them up?”
I sneered.
Decorate my ass!
If you want to decorate, go get the stuff from my cousin!
But to avoid arguing with him, I could only say: “It’s still early, let’s talk about it in a few days.””
Seeing that I had spoken, Beckett thought the matter was settled.
He visibly relaxed.
