Beckett returned home, exhausted, just as I was making dinner.
Seeing him soaking wet, I suddenly remembered.
On this day in my previous life, knowing Beckett had submitted our marriage license application, I had happily bought a lot of groceries, planning to celebrate with him when he got back.
But I waited and waited, and he came back very late..
When he did return, he was also drenched.
I had been very worried and asked him what had happened.
But Beckett just brushed it off, not saying anything.
Later I found out that on this day, Vivian had somehow fallen into the river.
It was Beckett who saved her.
I sneered.
Combining this with what happened in my previous life, it was easy to guess that Vivian must have found out Beckett had submitted our marriage license application today, so she was either heartbroken.
Either devastated or trying to manipulate him with a suicide attempt.
This also explained why, in my previous life, Beckett had been so cold to me that day.
I suppose he blamed me for Vivian’s river incident.
But how was I to blame? He was the one who proposed marriage, he was the one who submitted the application.
He was the one who promised to treat me well for a lifetime.

Yet in the end, I somehow became the villain who tore them apart.

So when I saw Beckett return soaking wet again, I just looked away, not fussing over him ike I had in my previous life. Instead, I calmly continued cooking my dishes.
With no hot water to bathe, Beckett could only quietly change out of his wet clothes.
During dinner, he started sneezing.
I pretended not to hear.
After dinner, while I was washing dishes in the kitchen, I saw Beckett pacing restlessly in the living room. Finally, unable to resist, he grabbed his coat and tossed out a quick “I’m going out for a bit.”
Then he hurried out the door.
I pursed my lips. I would be leaving this place soon.
