Chapter 2
Miah Stark’s fragile figure followed closely behind him, both of them carrying household items just purchased from the supermarket.
They were just like a young couple who had moved in together.
My aunt happened to come down to pick me up and caught sight of this scene. Just as she was about to speak up and ask question, I interrupted her.
“My mom has delivered the things she bought for you. Remember to check the expiration date and don’t let them expire.”
Arabella noticed the children’s unusual behavior and, as usual, comforted them, “Maybe dad is busy, shall we try calling again later?”
While I was instructing the driver to carry the delivery upstairs, I casually said, “You don’t need to tell me about your work, my mom bought it. She bought more for the next time you come; I don’t
know when that will be.”
When Lucas realized that I didn’t misunderstand the two of them, he breathed a sigh of relief.
“No problem, the northern suburbs are not far away. Just let me know when you want to come
over.”
He didn’t know yet that I was going back, and I didn’t plan on telling him.
Auntie wanted to speak, but when she saw Lucas carefully protecting Miah, her expression also
turned serious.
The four people stood still for a while, and in the end, it was Miah who shouted “I’m tired” to bring
it to an end.
Lucas immediately spoke up upon hearing the words, instructing the driver to temporarily halt the movement of goods.
He was told that he had few things, so he was asked to use the elevator first.
I watched as he held several bags of daily necessities in his hands, and I stepped aside for him.
Lucas’s eves flashed with a hint of surprise as he hurriedly stepped into the elevator.
As the elevator doors closed, I felt like I saw my reflection in Miah from the past.
At that time, my aunt had just moved to a new house, and she was also eagerly running errands for me and busying herself with me.
moved all my luggage into his house and said with a smile that I was ready to welcome the future.
hostess.
My aunt sighed with regret beside me, “Can’t I ask? We’ve known each other for so long. It would be a pity if we broke up because of a misunderstanding.”
I shook my head.
“No need, there was no misunderstanding between us, he never let misunderstandings linger overnight, no explanation, that’s the answer.”
Lucas and his friends didn’t buy a lot of things, they could move everything in one trip.
Until I finished saying goodbye to my aunt and delivering the things, I didn’t see his figure.
downstairs.
Out of courtesy to an old friend, I took out my phone and sent him a message asking when he would
be returning.
As soon as I sent it, he replied to me with a voice message.
But when I clicked on it, it was Miah’s sweet voice.
“Sister Celia, Brother Lucas is helping me tidy up the electrical circuits in the house. No one has
lived in this house before, and many places need to be cleaned up. You should go back first, so as
not to delay your time!”
I was just about to turn off my phone and call a taxi when she sent another message.
“Celia, please don’t overthink it. Lucas was just helping me out, seeing how lonely I was living in
the big city all by myself…
Thinking about my parents who had long been separated, I swallowed the words in my throat and
closed the chat box.
After getting in the car, I was staring out of the window absentmindedly when Lucas called.
“Why were you so mean to Miah? She is my subordinate, what’s wrong with me helping her fing place to stay? The company doesn’t provide accommodation yet, isn’t it natural for me to lend a
hand?”
“Celia, when did you become like this? You had been wearing a cold expression at the birthday party, saying that you were feeling unwell and wanted to leave. I haven’t had a chance to confront
you yet, and now what are you causing trouble for today?”
The sound of Miah’s sobbing came through the receiver.
The performance in front of me was completely different from the innocent and naive schoolgirl Lucas described.
I sighed heavily and finally understood her little scheme.
But I was also too lazy to defend myself.
Well, it’s okay. It’s my fault. I was just asking. You can go ahead with your work. I have already ‘gone back, didn’t wait for you.”
