He smirked. “You’re now my maid, Charmaine. Remember to respect me.”
Charmaine was taken aback.
Oh, great!
Charmaine realized she couldn’t expect any kind words from this tyrant.

Seeing her sulking with her head down, clearly angry but too afraid to speak up, Emyr felt a
of satisfaction and couldn’t help but smile for once.

“Take me to the study.”
“Okay.”
He even had the nerve to boss me around!
Suddenly, she thought of something. A mischievous glint flashed in her eyes as she cleared her throat and coughed. “Mr. Emyr, what would you like for dinner?”
“Anything is fine,” Emyr said, looking at her. “Did you learn to cook in South Aspus?”
Charmaine replied nonchalantly, “Something like that. It’s pretty easy to pick up.”
She replied with a light, carefree attitude.
But what was the truth?
In her past life at the Reads, she had always sought her parents‘ attention, buying groceries, cooking meals, and studying hard to achieve good grades. She believed that if she excelled in everything, they would be pleased and finally recognize her as their daughter.
No matter what she did, they still didn’t care about her. They just treated her like a maid, bossing her around all the time.
Later, when she learned that she wasn’t the Reads biological child, Charmaine realized that it wasn’t her fault for not getting their attention. She had simply been naive about what “family”
meant.
She had pinned all her hopes on the Nelsons, but to her disappointment, they were just as bad.
At this thought, a mocking smile appeared on Charmaine’s face.

It was thanks to the Reads that she could make the best of a bad situation in South Aspus.
Lost in thought, she was unaware of Emyr watching her reflection in the mirror.
Seeing her distracted and her previously bright and proud expression now clouded with a layer of gray, the man’s eyes darkened.
He treated her as a mere pastime, but seeing her so desolate, as if abandoned by the world, he felt a strange sense of irritation.
Feeling his mood change because of Charmaine Emyr’s expression turned dark.
“Charmaine, go clean out the fish pond.”
“Huh?”
Charmaine was taken aback, slowly processing his words as she met his gaze. It took her a moment to grasp what he meant.
She stared at him in disbelief. “Pond? You’re calling that artificial lake, which is bigger than two football fields, a pond?”
Was your geography lesson taught by a PE teacher, you jerk?!
Emyr didn’t even spare her a glance as he controlled his wheelchair out of the elevator.
“You chose to be my maid. If you don’t want to do it, then leave.”
“You!”
Charmaine gave him the middle finger as he rolled away. “I’ve always kept my word!”
What the hell? He was fine just a moment ago, and now he’s turned into a freak! He flipped out in the blink of an eye!
Charmaine spent the entire afternoon darting around the pond.
She couldn’t do anything to Emyr, so she decided to take it out on a crocodile instead.
A beautiful afternoon sunbathing turned into a nightmare for the crocodile.
The big, fat Little Fish flapped its body, too scared to do anything but tremble in the grass where it hardly ever went.
The man responsible for all this was in his study holding an international meeting while sipping coffee. He watched the woman on the monitor with amusement.

Charmaine’s resentment lingered until dinner.
She pushed the food cart to Emyr.
“Mr. Emyr, dinner.”
Emyr glanced at the food, rice, four dishes, and soup, all seemingly home–cooked.
He nodded slightly. “Thank you for your hard work.”
Charmaine chuckled. “Not hard, just unfortunate.”

The nearby maids nearly burst into laughter, and even Alfred couldn’t help but stifle a grin.
Since Emyr’s incident, the small villa had been devoid of laughter, gloomy, and empt hollow castle, both grand and cold.
But everything changed after Charmaine arrived.

Now, Emyr could get angry, laugh, and even play little pranks–this was what it truly meant to be alive!
Alfred wiped away a tear, touched. Suddenly, someone tapped him on the arm. He turned to see a maid gesturing wildly in fear.
Confused, Alfred followed the maid’s gaze. The old man was instantly terrified.
Emyr had picked up a white object and put it in his mouth, chewing it a few times before swallowing.
