Blunt Talk
“Dad, why were you on the phone so long?” Egan asked as Kiefer as he appeared in front of them along with a small army of men who were now rushing to get vehicles in place to take them to the aquarium.
“I was talking to my administrative assistant and my lawyer at our company. There was an issue with our supply coming in. Also, I was talking to your granddad again. He’s getting a flight this morning to
come meet you.”
“Your father is coming?” Genesis‘ voice betrayed her nerves. She only met Lorcan O’Reilly a handful of times, and he was a quiet, huge man with eyes which would make a shark’s gaze seem warm. He was blunt, straightforward and while he’d never been outright rude or mean to her, she always felt he did not approve of her, much in the way his wife never approved of her:
“He is. Mentioned making his offer in person,” he and Tadgh exchanged disgusted glances. “He’s also quite concerned I don’t

“What?” Genesis was confused by the comment.
“To quote my father, Genesis, it’s all hands on deck in America to make sure I don’t lose the best thing to ever happen to me a second time. He’s coming to lend support to make sure the entire family knows if anyone fucks with you, they fuck with the three heads of the O’Reilly clan.”

“You sure? She’s pretty angry with me.” Kiefer buckled his seatbelt and motioned for Genesis to do the same.
“Because you didn’t keep her safe,” Egan shrugged. “Keep her safe and she won’t be mad.”
“It’s not this simple, Egan. My failure to keep your mom safe means Roan died. Mom is pretty pissed off about it.”
Genesis wondered when Kiefer started talking to Egan the way he was. She knew she talked to Egan pretty bluntly, but this seemed next level.
Egan nodded, “I guess. I don’t think she’d shoot you though. She doesn’t want my dad to die, do you mom?” Egan looked at her to confirm his thoughts.
“Nope. I don’t want him to die.”
“Yet, last night when you were sleeping Egan, she straight out said she hoped I would die so she wouldn’t have to share you with me.”
“Kiefer!” she suddenly wished she did have a gun on her. She was ready to shoot him in the balls for saying such things to Egan.

“Mom! Not nice. You can’t say things like that to my dad. You should say you’re sorry.”
“It really hurt my feelings.” Kiefer played it up. “I was awake all–night thinking of ways to make your mom not hate me and not wish I was dead. Do you have any ideas, Egan?”
“Uncle Tadgh gave her kisses. I think she likes it. You could give her kisses too.”
