Dreams
Genesis woke up, wrapped up warm and tight in Lorcan’s embrace, his breath warm on her ear, as he cuddled her from behind, his entire body curled around hers. She was startled by it, given he usually was the first person up in the morning, in the gym, showered and then heading out the door and by the light coming into the room, he was late.
“Good morning,” his voice was rough as he squeezed her tighter in his arms.
“You’re not up yet.” She whispered in confusion.
“You felt too good in my arms. I wanted to stay here a bit longer and then a bit longer turned into me falling back to sleep. I don’t remember the last time I slept this well. You’re good for my peace of mind, Genesis.”
She turned in his arms to face him, tucking her hands under her chin near his chest to look at him in the dim morning light. “I sleep best with you here.”
“I can tell.” He smirked at her, “within ten minutes of me
coming to bed, you were snoring so loud I was a tad concerned Egan would wake up from the noise.”
“Funny.”
“I find it soothing.”
Dreams
She lifted her head incredulously, “you find my snoring soothing?”

“It means the world to me you are so comfortable in my presence you succumb to such a deep sleep. Am I concerned we may need to get you a CPAP machine? Yes. We may still have my mother’s laying around,” he laughed and caught her fists as she swung at him and rolled her onto her back to smile down at her. “Beautiful. Fiery and beautiful, even first thing in the morning. You’re better than any drug or drink I’ve ever tried, Gen.”
“Lorcan.” She couldn’t look away from his eyes and the brightness in them despite the early hour. He was looking at her. as if she were the only woman on the planet and it felt good.
He pulled his head back and tilted his head as if listening for something and then smiled, “Egan is coming down the hall at a
tear.”
The little knock on the door had Lorcan rolling out of the bed wearing his pajama bottoms as he did when he joined her and nothing else. While he moved to unlock the bedroom door and let his grandson in, Genesis openly eyeballed his exquisite body.. As she took in the artwork covering his frame, she recalled his words at dinner about tattooing Daddy’s Princess on her body. When he hoisted Egan up in his arms and nuzzled him, wishing him good morning, Genesis felt her heart lurching in her chest. The time he’d been spending in the evenings with Egan while she’d been on dates with the twins was helping him to also develop his bond with his grandson and it was clear they were growing remarkably close.
Dreams
He carried Egan into the bed and nestled him next to his mother. “I need the toilet. You snuggle with Mom,” he kissed them both on the forehead.

Egan wordlessly stared at his grandfather who disappeared into the bathroom with eyes wide and curious.
“What is on your mind?” Genesis asked Egan quietly.
“Jerren called Granddad a giant son of a bitch yesterday and he was right. Granddad is huge. He has way more muscles than Dad, Tadgh, and Jerren.”
She bit her lip trying not to laugh, “Jerren shouldn’t curse in front of you and there are words you probably shouldn’t say, especially once you get to school, but” she couldn’t deny it, “he is a giant son of a bitch and far more muscles. It’s what makes me feel safest when he’s here.”
”
“Is it why he stayed with you?”
“What do you mean?”
“You were scared in the new house last night, so Granddad slept. here.” He frowned, “my other granddad said Granddad Lorcan would protect you.”
“Did he now?” Genesis noted Lorcan coming back from the bathroom pausing at the door.
“Yes. So did Astra.”
Dreams
Her eyes flicked from ogling Lorcan who was lounging in his low–slung bottoms to her son’s eyes. “What?”
“I dreamed about Auntie Astra last night. She was there. She said to tell you she was sorry, and she loves you.”

Lorcan was out of the room in a flash running down the hall to bang on both Kiefer and Tadgh’s door.
Genesis was sitting up in the bed staring at her son with wide eyes, aware he hadn’t put two and two together yet. In seconds. three grown men were back at her door and Lorcan was telling them to listen carefully to every word out of Egan’s mouth. Egan dreamt of Astra.
“Egan.” She fought against the way her heart was pounding so hard it felt as if it was going to break her ribs. “Can you tell me exactly what Auntie Astra said in your dream?”
“In my dream, I was playing with Roan. We were playing with my new car. He was laughing. I like when he laughs, Mom.”
“Does he laugh like you?‘
Egan nodded, “yes. But then he got really sad, and he walked to the porch from my dreams, and he sat down with Granddad and rested his head on his shoulder. Then Granddad said Granddad Lorcan would keep you safe, Mom, and told me not to worry because you have a whole army to keep you safe now.”
“Granddad said this?” she asked as the men edged into the

room, clearly in awe of Egan’s gifts. It was the expression on Lorean’s face though which she knew was mirroring her own.
“But then Auntie Astra came to my dream. I never dreamed of her before. Not in these dreams with Roan and Granddad.”
“I see. How did she look?”
“She was sad and she,” he made a face, “you know the time you and Auntie Astra drank too much of the wine, and you fell asleep in the living room, and she had all the black stuff on her face?”
“The mascara? Her make–up was running?”
“All down her face. I wanted to give her a washcloth.” He rolled. his eyes, “but then she hugged me and said she loved me, and she was sorry for leaving me. She said she missed me so much and that she couldn’t stop crying because she just missed me. She wished she could do things different. I think she wishes she came with us to Boston.”
“I bet she really does,” Genesis agreed and nodded wiping her tears from her cheeks. “What else did she say?” She usually didn’t press for more, waiting for Egan to provide the information but she was desperate.
“She said to tell you she was wrong, but she tried really hard to keep you safe. She said she made a mistake with the tests. I don’t know what it means, but she said she shouldn’t have sent the tests. She said bad men were looking for you.”
Dreams
“Did she say what bad men?” Lorcan asked quietly.

“No. Only the bad men were looking for Mom and she didn’t tell them anything because she loves mom and me too much. Granddad told her she did really good, and he was proud of her and then he sent her away. She hugged me one more time but then she left. I don’t think she is coming back to my dreams.”
“I see.” She sniffed and Tadgh was shoving a tissue into her hand. Kiefer was frantically texting on his phone.
“Egan,” Kiefer asked quietly, “have you ever dreamed of anyone else like this before?”
“No.” He shook his head. “Sometimes I have dreams where people are in it, but they aren’t the same dreams. I travel in these dreams.” He shrugged as if what he was saying makes
sense.
“You travel?” Lorcan lifted him from the bed and held him on his lap while pulling Genesis under his arm. His warm kiss. to her forehead told her he believed the same thing she was believing in the moment despite the two other men in the room. not quite convinced.
“Yes. When I dream of Roan and Granddad there is a river, I need to go across to see them. It’s easy because the water moves. out of the way for me, and I can step on all the stones to get there but nobody else in my dreams can follow. Like if I was dreaming of spiderman or hulk, they can’t come with me to play with Roan.”

“I see.” Lorcan swallowed. “So, in this dream, Auntie Astra didn’t follow you across the river. She came after.”

Egan frowned and then nodded. “She just showed up. She was brighter than Roan and Granddad and she could touch me really easy. I felt her hug real tight.”
“I bet. She always gave the best hugs.” Genesis cleared her throat.
“Mom.”
“What baby?”
“I think Auntie Astra died.”
The sob which bubbled up from her chest couldn’t be stopped as she buried her face in Lorcan’s shoulder.
“Why do you say this?” Kiefer asked him as he moved to sit on the bed, taking Egan’s hands in his and squeezing them gently.
“Well, in the field with the porch, alive people don’t come.”
“Okay.”
“Also, in my dream she had a hole.”
“A hole?”
“A hole.” Egan poked Kiefer in the forehead. “Right there. I think the bad guys did it.” He sniffed, “I’m sad I won’t see her

again. I really liked the hug she gave me.”

“Can you show me? I could use a hug,” Genesis’s voice cracked as she enveloped her son in her arms and hugged him tight, resting her head on his.
Jerren cleared his throat as he entered the room and then gave Kiefer a solemn one shake of his head. Kiefer’s eyes rounded in surprise.
“Really?”
Jerren nodded and then spoke rapid fire Irish which told Genesis he didn’t want little cars understanding what was being said.
She met Lorcan’s eyes over Egan’s head and tried her best not to break down the way her soul wanted to.
Astra was dead and she told Egan bad men were after Genesis. What the hell was going on?
