I wandered through my family’s garden, my hand comfortably held in Ryan’s. It wasn’t awkward at all; instead, it felt like we had been friends for ages, perfectly in tune with each other’s thoughts.

Our family mansion wasn’t located within the main pack house, it was intentionally separate to give us a sense of privacy away the rest of the pack.
“My sister said we were engaged,” I began
“Yes,” he replied, his tone steady.
“Why didn’t you come for me?” I asked, curiosity piqued.
“Because you were still so blinded by your feelings for that other alpha. I needed to let things unfold on their own. If it was meant to be with him, you wouldn’t be here with me, taking a peaceful stroll through your garden,” he said, a smile spreading across his face, his canines gleaming.
“True,” I murmured, lapsing into quiet contemplation.
“Aya, Ryan My sister’s voice called out. “The parents are home” she announced, and Ryan and I shared a laugh
“Aya! My dear, you’ve grown into such a beautiful woman!” A woman, who I presumed to be Ryan’s mother due to their striking resemblance, stepped forward and enveloped me in a warm hug X
I leaned into the embrace, finding comfort in it
“Thank you” I said, offering a genuine smile.
“Aya, my baby..” My mum’s voice cracked slightly as she spoke. “Did the chefs make enough delicious dishes for you? Oh my, you still look so lean.”
“I’m fine, Murn.” I reassured her, noticing Ryan and Vivian snickering quietly from the sidelines.
“Dad…” I greeted, wrapping my arms around him in a big hug.
“Hey, Aya! I’m Ryan’s dad,” a handsome man in his 50s introduced himself, stepping forward. He shared a remarkable resemblance to Ryan, the only difference being the silver strands of hair peppering his father’s head.
“Now that everyone’s here, let’s get down to business, my father said, his tone turning serious as we all took our seats
“Aya… My mother began, her gaze softening. “We told you that we blocked off your powers so you would appear as a regular human girl, but we didn’t tell you the reason why”
“It was to keep you safe,” she continued “When you were just three years old, we discovered that your powers were different from those of regular pups. It was dangerous for you to handle such immense power. By that age, you already had the powers of a Luna, and it put you at great risk. At that time, the human faction of the Obsidian pack was planning a revolt. They believed that since both humans and wolves were part of the pack, they could rise to the top claiming the role of Alphas. Your uncle found out about your powers through a snitch we dealt with, but he didn’t know we had already sealed them away. He became too eager, thinking he could use you to gain your powers for himself. I don’t know what he was thinking, but in the end, he drank himself to death at that bar”
“The only way to unlock your powers to their full potential,” my mother continued, her voice steady but heavy with the weight of her words, “is if you mate with someone whose powers surpass your own. And the only person within your age range who can do that is Ryan,”
She dropped the bombshell, and I felt my entire world shift.
“Ok.” I said quietly.!!
“Do you need time to think about it?” my father asked, his tone calm but serious.
He continued, “Your older sister Vivian has fallen in love with a human, and as a result, neither she nor her husband can assume the roles of leaders of this pack. Vivian has already agreed to this.” I glanced at Vivian, and she gave me a subtle nod of agreement.
“You and Ryan will have time to reconnect, and after that, a mating ceremony will be arranged for the both of you. Additionally, we have agreed that if you have children, one of them will be given to the Obsidian pack to continue our legacy.”
“Okay,” I said quietly, feeling the weight of the decision settle in. “I agree.”

“Ayaaaaal” Karen, my editor, screamed through the phone, her voice high–pitched and frantic
“Jesus Christ, Karen, chill! What’s the problem?” I asked, holding the phone away from my ear as I scratched my head.
