When Liam Johnson came home, I was packing my things. He leaned against the door frame. “Emma, are you angry?”
“I’ll send you the divorce agreement,” I said as I finished packing my suitcase.
Liam Johnson rubbed his brow, perplexed. “Emma, are you going to be like those naive women? Isn’t this okay? Let’s try an open marriage.”
He paused. “You know that over the years, you haven’t helped me at all. The Williams family and I signed a contract worth billions.”
Finally, he buried his head in the crook of my neck, whispering soothingly, “Don’t worry, you’ll still be Mrs. Johnson.”
The person in front of me felt both familiar and unfamiliar. I remembered when he landed his first big deal for the company, he hugged me with a satisfied smile. “Honey, even though you can’t share my workload, your husband is very capable. I can handle both family and career. Your love is my motivation.”
For that sentence, I quit my job to take care of the family wholeheartedly, so he wouldn’t have any
distractions.

His warm breath brushed my neck as I pushed him away. “How long has this been going
on?”
“Three years,” he hesitated before explaining, “Just two or three times a year, nothing
serious.”
I nodded. “Adultery within marriage, is it too much for me to ask for more assets?”
Liam Johnson frowned, his expression instantly turning cold. “Emma Smith, making a fuss won’t do you any good. Would you really give up being Mrs. Johnson? All these year you’ve had chauffeured cars, a wardrobe full of jewelry and luxury bags. Do you think you could afford any of that on your own?”
I scanned the room, leaving all those luxury items untouched, and dragged my suitcase

Liam Johnson seemed unprepared for my resoluteness and hurriedly followed me. “Emma Smith.”
He gripped my wrist, squeezing me until it hurt. “Liam Johnson,” I choked, the emotions I had suppressed surging up. With reddened eyes, I said, “It’s you who doesn’t want me anymore.”
The grip on my wrist gradually loosened, and I could vaguely see traces of his youthful self in his expression – the person whose eyes were once full of me, now lost to time.
I remember when I was young, my father was a man with all the flaws – he liked drinking, womanizing, and domestic violence. Whenever my mother was beaten, she would still embrace her husband who wanted to go out and plead with him to stay.
Her repeated concessions only brought more cruel treatment. At that time, I vowed never to repeat my mother’s mistake.
I lowered my gaze. “Liam Johnson, I wish you happiness.”
He suddenly laughed. “Just for this little thing…”
Perhaps it was a small matter to him, but it was these little things that weighed me down until I didn’t even have the strength to maintain appearances.
The things that can break a person are actually quite simple – the tone of voice, impatient emotions, constant brushoffs and disregard. The little things, scattered everywhere like sesame seeds, are enough to drive one to despair.
Just before I opened the door, I saw Noah Johnson in the living room, eyes wide as he stared at me, then at Liam Johnson’s expression. As always, he kicked my leg hard. “Bad woman! Bad woman! You made Dad angry, quickly apologize to Dad!”
Whenever Liam Johnson and I argued in the past, Noah Johnson would unhesitatingly take his father’s side. Only after I admitted my mistake in front of them would he stop.
Thinking of this, I calmly bent down to meet his gaze. “From now on, I won’t be your mom anymore. I won’t be coming back, so be a good boy and listen to your dad, okay? Don’t look for me again.”
Then I einnd on grouring Mosh Johnson’s deed expression. This child, who had
commanded my full attention from birth with every cough, bump, or scratch, now didn’t
even deserve a glance from me.
Liam Johnson reminded me, “At least we were married once. You can come see the kid
sometimes if you’re free
“No need,” I said.
“Emma Smith, you won’t be shortchanged in the asset division,” he thought for a moment.
“Consider it compensation for your hard work over the years.”
Liam Johnson regained his calm and composed demeanor, as casual as dismissing a live–in maid. I don’t know if it was my imagination, but I sensed an unprecedented ease from him, and even Noah Johnson seemed to breathe a silent sigh of relief.
