Chapter 2
“Babe, do you remember Olivia? Her child was sick before, but she’s better now and coming back to the
country.”
“She’s all alone, with no family to rely on. I was thinking… maybe she could stay at our house for a while?”
He carefully observed my expression and added,
“Of course, it’s just a suggestion. If you and Charlie mind, I won’t force it.”
I smiled.
“I don’t mind. Bring her home.”
Harry froze for a moment, then beamed.
“Thank you, Babe. You’re the best.”
“Marrying you is the greatest blessing of my life.”
I didn’t respond.
I simply climbed into the back seat, pulling my son into my arms.
Tears glistened in my eyes.
That night, Harry left the house in a hurry.
I knew exactly where he was going–he couldn’t wait to welcome Olivia home.
Meanwhile, I sat my son down for a serious conversation.
I told him the truth.
I told him we were leaving.
I wanted to take him as far away from this wretched house as possible, never to see Harry again.
My son didn’t protest.
Silently, he tore up the diary he had been keeping.
It documented every day since the accident–every moment Harry had spent with us.

Day 1.
I lost my eye.
I asked Mom where it went. She didn’t answer. She just kept crying.
Dad cried too. For the first time, he hugged me and promised he’d be my eyes from now on.
Day 3.
Dad visits us every day.
He says he loves Mom and me.
He says he wants to be with us forever.
I told him I love him too.
Dad cried again.
Day 21.
I was discharged from the hospital.
At kindergarten, my friend Jack saw my missing eye and called me a monster.
He said I was disgusting and that he’d never play with me again.
I hid in the storage room and cried for a long time.
But it’s okay.
Mom and Dad love me.
Day 25.
The doctor gave me a fake eye.
Dad said no one would make fun of me anymore.
I revealed my eyes to Jack, telling him I wasn’t disgusting.
But he jabbed my eye with a pencil and said I was a devil because devils don’t feel pain.

Tears fell uncontrollably as I pulled my son into my arms, breaking down in sobs.
“Charlie, let’s leave, okay?”
My son touched his cold, artificial eye, his reddened
“Okay.”

I set my phone’s countdown timer to twenty–four hours.
Every second we stayed was another second of harm to my son.
21 hours left.
I took my son to his kindergarten to handle his withdrawal.

Just as I was about to knock on the principal’s office door, I heard a familiar voice from inside.
“…How is Lucas’s health? Are his eyes uncomfortable?”
Olivia smiled, her eyes twinkling like stars.
“The doctor says Lucas is recovering well, and his eyes are working perfectly.”
“Harry, it’s all thanks to you.”
Harry’s lips curled into a warm smile.
“As long as you’re happy, I’d do anything.”
Olivia playfully glared at him and spoke in a delicate voice.
“But what about Sophia? If she finds out Lucas is using Charlie’s eyes, won’t she be mad?”
“Harry, I don’t want to make things difficult for you.”
Her saccharine tone made me nauseous.
She had always been li
this–reaping all the benefits while pretending to be innocent and helpless, making people fawn over her.
Five years ago, when my son was born, she deliberately requested an induction despite it not being her due date, just to steal Harry’s attention.
He abandoned me at the hospital to stay with her overnight.

Chapter 2
After my son was born, I begged the nurse to call Harry, just so he could take one look at his child.
But he, too preoccupied with Olivia, handed our son off to a nurse and coldly told me not to make trouble.
My eyes stung with unshed tears. Just as I turned to leave, the principal arrived and pushed the door open before I could stop her.
The moment Harry saw me and my son, a flash of panic crossed his eyes.
“Wh–when did you get here? Why didn’t you knock?”
Noticing my gaze on Olivia, he hurried to explain,
“Sophia, don’t misunderstand. I just found out Olivia had returned with Lucas. I happened to run into her and thought I’d help enroll Lucas in kindergarten. You-”
“I understand.”
I cut him off and turned away with my son.
But Olivia, ever so composed, called out to me with a bright smile.
“Sophia, long time no see.”
She pulled the little boy beside her forward and introduced him to my son.
“Charlie, this is your friend, Lucas. You two are fated to meet.”
The boy leaned in curiously, staring at my son’s eyes with an expression of disdain.
“Mommy, his eyes are fake. So gross!”
Charlie’s face instantly turned pale as he shrank behind me in shame.
I trembled with anger.
But before I could say anything, Harry swiftly stepped in front of Olivia and spoke in an unnatural tone,
“Sophia, don’t be mad. Lucas didn’t mean it. He’s just a child–h
