Chapter 2
But right at that moment, my phone buzzed.
A message from Ryan.
[Mia, I’m not coming home tonight. Olivia’s in too much pain.]
I turned off my phone.
Then I looked at the doctor and said, “He doesn’t need to know. We’re done.”
“Just schedule the procedure.”
The doctor frowned, typing something on his phone before setting it down.
Then he tried to reason with me.
“Mia, this is just a fight, right? Take a breath.”
“Abortion isn’t something you do on impulse.”
“I already texted Ryan–you two should talk first.”
Before he even finished speaking, my phone rang.
Ryan.
I declined the call.
Then I blocked his number.
The messages started flooding in.
[Mia, pick up.]
[Mia… you’re pregnant?]
[Don’t do it. Let’s keep the baby, okay?]
[Mia, are you mad? Don’t be. I’m coming to find you.]

Chapter 2
The endless messages made my stomach turn.
I looked at the doctor one last time.
“Are you doing the procedure or not?”
He shook his head.
“Ryan’s been my friend for years.”
“I can’t be the one to take his child away.”
Fine.
I grabbed my bag and walked out, filing a complaint against the doctor before leaving.
By the time I found another hospital, it was too late to schedule the procedure.
I was admitted for the night, waiting for the surgery in the morning.
My phone wouldn’t stop buzzing.
Ryan.
And Daniel Reed–my best friend of ten years.
Both were asking where I was.
I replied to Daniel.
Ryan, I ignored.
Daniel burst into the room, and the moment his eyes landed on me, panic washed over his face.
His eyes were bloodshot, his hands clenched into fists.
“Ryan’s been treating you like crap, hasn’t he, Mia?”
“Break up with him. Let me take care of you.”
“I swear to God, I’m gonna kill that bastard.”
Daniel turned toward the door, ready to storm out.
I grabbed his hand, pulling him back.

Chapter 2
“Calm down. A guy like him isn’t worth it.”
I exhaled, voice steady.
“In three days, I’m leaving for Paris.”
“Before I go, I’ll erase every trace of him from my life. For good.”
Daniel wanted to say something else, but I was too exhausted to listen.
I curled up under the blanket and let sleep take over.
I had no idea how long I slept.
But when I woke up, a wave of cold air brushed over me.
I opened my eyes to find Ryan standing by my bed–soaking wet, shivering slightly.
His face was pale and haggard, his lips pulling into a smile that looked more painful than a cry.
“Mia… I’ve been looking for you all night. I finally found you.”
Outside, the rain poured down relentlessly.
Ryan was drenched.
Maybe he really had searched for me all night.
But so what?
A late apology is worth less than dirt.
His voice trembled with hope.
“Mia… what about the baby? Is it…?”
The baby was still there.
But I didn’t want to give him even a sliver of happiness.
So I crushed his hope without hesitation.
“I’m in the hospital, Ryan. What do you think?”
I watched as the realization hit him, his body stiffening with panic.
Chapter 2
But then, almost desperately, he forced a smile.
“It’s okay. It’s okay. We can try again.”
“As long as you’re healthy, we’ll have another baby,”
I stared at him, my voice calm but sharp.
“We will. But not you and me. Ryan, we’re done.”
Ryan froze.
“Mia, you’re joking, right? You love me. You wouldn’t break up
with me.”
I had no idea where he got that confidence,
Just as I was about to shatter it, the door swung open.
Standing there, also drenched from the rain, was Olivia,
She walked over to Ryan, tears brimming in her eyes as she looked up at him with guilt–ridden sorrow.
“I’m so sorry, Ryan… I didn’t think asking you to stay with me last night would make Mia so upset. This is all my fault. I killed your baby.”
She held out a container.‘
I made this longan and red date soup… I thought it might help with Mia’s pain.”
Ryan said nothing.
Olivia stepped closer and held out the container to me.
