Chapter 5
She was sitting beside him, watching me with cold amusement.
Then, without warning, she slapped me across the face.
“Shut the hell up. You’re so damn loud.”
She sneered.
“Bet you didn’t see this coming, huh, Mia?”
She leaned in close, her tone dripping with mockery as she patted my cheek.
“Be a good girl and stay put.”
“Tomorrow, I’m sending you to hell to keep my sister company.”
A chill ran down my spine.
Tomorrow was her sister’s death anniversary.
She planned to kill me as a tribute.
I forced myself to stay calm.
“Olivia, you do realize murder is a crime, right? The police will find you.”
She laughed–a low, sinister sound.
“My sister’s been dead for three years.”
“You think the cops ever figured out I was behind that car accident?”
“Please. When I kill, I don’t leave evidence.”
My breath hitched.
The accident wasn’t an accident.
She killed her own sister.
A shudder ran through me.

“She was your sister. How could you do that?”
Her eyes darkened.
Then she slapped me again, harder this time.
“Anyone who tries to take Ryan from me deserves to die.”
“My sister did. And you do too.”
Blood pooled in my mouth.
I spit onto the floor, my voice steady despite the pain.
“Three years. You had three years to kill me. Why now?”
Olivia smirked.
“Because Ryan never took his eyes off you. I never got the chance.”
She stepped even closer, her breath hot against my skin.
“But now? Now you’re alone. And you’re dead.”
Our eyes locked.
I saw an opening.
I had one trick left.
I forced all my focus onto her.
Dug into her mind. Twisted. Pulled.
For a few precious seconds, I saw the haze of hypnosis cloud her gaze.
Then, just as quickly, the exhaustion from my surgery caught up with me.
My body was too weak.
The trance broke.
Suspicion flickered in her eyes.
She turned to the man beside her.

“Stick to the plan.”
The man nodded.
Then, to my shock, he grabbed her and tied her to the chair beside me.
I barely had time to process what was happening before he shoved a dirty rag me completely.

But not her.
He left her mouth free.
Then he picked up her phone.
And dialed Ryan’s number.
The call connected.
The kidnapper got straight to the point.
“Ryan Hale, right? Listen up. I’ve got two people tied up.”
“They both want you to save them. Half a million bucks.”
“You get to pick one. Who’s it gonna be?”
