Chapter 12
Eamon dressed formally today in a suit and tie.
The same style that made Caspian look like a sharp, powerful executive somehow lost all its hardness on
Eamon.
His natural warmth softened the formal attire, a kind of softness that made people instantly feel at ease.
We’d been to this restaurant countless times before.
But tonight felt different.
Eamon cut up a steak, sliding the plate in front of me.
“Try it, Loviisa. I made this one myself.”
I raised a brow. He cooked?
“Wow. This is actually really good. It’s rich but not greasy.”
Eamon folded his hands on the table, watching nervously as I ate.
I suddenly realized the restaurant was almost empty.
Then it hit me what he was planning.
The waiter appeared, pushing a cart toward us.
A two–tiered Black Forest cake sat on top, the dark chocolate layers hiding a mix of fruits–all my favorites.
“Let me guess… you made this too?”
Eamon nodded with a smile.
Seeing the envious glances from the server, I felt a bit embarrassed.
This was the second year in a row he had celebrated my birthday.
Back at the Hyperion house, Caspian would barely show up on my birthday–just long enough to drop off some generic jewelry I hated before disappearing again.
When I bit into a strawberry and found a ring, I wasn’t surprised.

Chapter 12
It was a platinum band I’d admired before–clean, elegant design that perfectly matched my taste.
Unlike the oversized diamond ring that didn’t even fit properly Caspian had carelessly bought when we
married.
Turns out, when a man truly loves you, you don’t have to spell it out–he just knows.
“Loviisa, I’ve loved you for longer than you ever loved Caspian.”
Eamon dropped to one knee, his eyes full of sincerity.
He’d fallen for me at first sight during freshman year.
Back then, I had been too blind, too young–too busy chasing after Caspian Hyperion.
He had seen the wish I wrote on the academy’s dream wall–to one day be a wedding dress designer.
So when we graduated, he built a bridal shop.
He waited.
And finally, I came back to him.
Before I could respond, Caspian burst in with several bodyguards, interrupting the proposal.
He aggressively threw me over his shoulder and carried me back to his hotel.
Caspian tossed me onto the bed, then caged me in before I could get up.
His eyes burned with jealousy and hurt.
“Loviisa… if I hadn’t shown up, were you really going to say yes to him?”
“What if I was? It’s none of your fucking business!”
The second the words left my mouth, his expression twisted.
Something dark and broken flickered across his face.
“I can’t control you? Fine. Then I’ll let the kid do it.”
I cowered into the corner of the bed, suddenly afraid.
Caspian grabbed my ankle and dragged me back toward him.
“Caspian, what the hell are you doing?”

He pinned me down, his fierce kisses landing roughly on my face.
