Chapter 5
At that celebration dinner when Sherry offended the client, Caspian forced me to kneel and apologize for her. I became the punchline of high society gossip.
Now, with every major media outlet watching, if I knelt again, I’d never live it down.
Seeing that I wasn’t budging, Caspian made a phone call.
Almost immediately, Mervi texted me.
“Loviisa, I just got fired! What am I going to do? It took me forever to find this job. My grandmother’s still in the hospital. I can’t lose this income…”
I clenched my fists, swallowing my humiliation.
As I dropped to my knees, every camera in the room zeroed in on my face, capturing my shame.
Checking Sherry’s wounds like the devoted lover he was.
“Wait, didn’t she just say there was nothing between them?”
“They seem awfully close. Are they actually involved behind the scenes?”
A journalist voiced the doubt hanging in the air.
Caspian started to explain, but I cut him off.
“Let’s just clear the air, shall we?” I smiled, voice smooth as silk.
“Sherry is Caspian’s first love. Years ago, she had to go abroad to get treatment for her depression. Before she left, they were legally married. She’s his lawful wife.”
“I was just the consolation prize, thrown into the marriage because I happened to save his sister’s life. Caspian was forced to marry me out of obligation.”
“Isn’t that right, Mr. Hyperion?”
For the first time ever, the usually domineering Caspian was speechless.
The shock on his face said it all–he never expected me to come up with such an outlandish story,
But of course, he didn’t contradict me either, because this was the perfect way to get Sherry off the hook.

“So, that means… the real homewrecker is Mrs. Hyperion?”
“That’s right. I’m the homewrecker.”
I tilted my head back with bitter mockery.
From now on, I owed the Hyperions nothing.
That night, Caspian waited for me at the villa.
He was anxious, his mind replaying the image of me kneeling before the reporters to clear up the rumors.
Speaking in that eerily calm voice, like I had nothing left to lose.
His panic was growing by the minute.
Suddenly, his assistant rushed in, out of breath.
“Mr. Hyperion, It’s bad–Mrs. Hyperion…jumped into the ocean!”
