chapter Sixteen: Second Chance
Samantha’s POV
I gazed at the mountain of food and fruit spread before me
which were obviously designed to boost my blood. There were
plates of iron–rich spinach and beef, vitamin–packed citrus fruits like oranges and grapefruits, and bowls of berries as well as
salmon, walnuts, cups of beetroot juice and pomegranate.
Theo was so funny. He was building my blood without even knowing my plans. I wasn’t typically a heavy eater, but I forced
myself to eat because I needed adequate blood to be able to
transfer to Theo.
I spent another day confined to the room, the door locked and
no sign of Theo or anyone else except the maids. Theo was
intentionally keeping me prisoner to prevent me from going to
the lab. But my resolve to escape was straightened. I was
waiting for the right time.
His attempts to control me or hold me back were useless. He
needed to do better than underestimate me.
On the evening of the next day, I got a chance when the maid forgot to lock the door. I waited for about 10 minutes, until I was

sure the coast was clear, and then snuck out of my room. Luck
was on my side, and no one saw me. The lab was within the premises, and I kept sneaking between walls to get there. After
all, I had fulfilled Theo’s wishes by eating and resting.
I ran past the workbenches and spotted the antidote container
surrounded by various flasks. The mixture was bubbling and frothing, releasing a faint hiss as it fermented. I watched as the
colors blended. I confirmed it wasn’t ready and carefully closed
the vial.
Time for action. My gaze roamed the lab searching for a
transparent glass until I spotted one on a nearby shelf. I
reached for it and held the small handle on the side.
I carefully sterilized the container by soaking it in alcohol and then exposing it to a flame to remove impurities. Once the flames died down, I let the container cool and sighed from the oncoming pain, I braced myself and sterilized a knife to cut
myself open.
My teeth grit together in pain and I expected a painful
sensation. A drop of red liquid fell from my arm onto the vial. More blood began to drip into the bowl, but unlike the previous times when I donated my blood to Mia with pain in my heart, I was happy to do this, and perhaps that’s why I didn’t really feel
so much pain. I was doing it for a good cause.
Second Chance
I glanced at the blood flowing through my veins which was stronger than ever and the wound hurt less than before. I took
the vial containing the cure, wrapped a cloth around it tightly, and placed it in my pocket. Then I carefully sealed the bowl and
headed back to the house with it.
Someone had seen me approaching and before I got to the
foyer, several maids were standing in a corner, giving me.
strange looks. But I ignored them and headed upstairs to Theo’s
room.
I stopped at the door when I heard voices. Theo was yelling at
the top of his lungs, threatening to kill someone.
My curiosity was piqued, and I wondered what was going on
and who he was shouting at. When I carefully opened the door
and stepped in, I didn’t see anyone with him, which meant he
was fighting over the mind link. I could feel his pain and anger
radiating off him in waves. Whoever was causing such anger
had better consider themselves lucky that they were not in his
presence.
Theo noticed my presence and turned around. When his eyes
locked onto mine, he was surprised they let me out of my room. He took in my presence and saw the container of blood I was
carrying. his fury slowly resurfaced. His brows tightened like
sharp spears and he took slow, deliberate steps, fixing his gaze

on the bowl of blood in my hand.
“What the hell is wrong with you, Samantha?!” Theo yelled.
“Don’t tell me you drew out that huge amount of blood from
yourself. Are you trying to kill yourself?”
His breathing grew noisy and his eyes flashed with anger.
“I will not drink that blood.I’ve told you before, you’re not a
martyr, Samantha! Your life is not mine to take.” He spat the
words, and my heart pounded away. Tears welling up in my
eyes.
“Why do you keep acting so stubborn?” I cried out and was
unable to control my trembling. “I’m doing this for your own
good. You’re going to die if you don’t take this blood. Have you
looked at yourself in the mirror? Your eyes are sunken and it
makes me wonder if you value your life at all.”
I didn’t know if what happened next was as a result of his angry
outburst or an honest mistake but the next thing I knew was
that In a swift motion, the container flew out of my hand and
shattered on the floor.
My eyes bulged open when glass fragments scattered
everywhere. Crying out and dropping to my knees I was desperate to salvage what was left. But it was too late. All that
remained was a puddle of blood and shattered glass.

“How dare you?” I wept like a baby. Theo scooped me up from
the floor and wrapped his arms around me, holding me close as
he lifted me away from the shattered glass. The anger was gone
from his eyes and they were now filled with something else.
Concern, maybe. But that was useless now. He undermined my
efforts and it hurt me.
His heart thumped loudly against my ear. Although my wolf liked
the close contact a little too much, I pushed back against him.
and ripped out a stern reply.
“What have you done?! You’re so ungrateful. I don’t like this part
of you at all.”
“I’m sorry, but I don’t want you to keep hurting yourself for me. I
will never drink your blood because you need lots of it and I
want you to be safe. I promised to protect you.”
“Have you considered your own safety? You may die! You have no idea how scared I am!” I curled up in his arms and clutched his shoulders. I couldn’t control my tears anymore.
“You’re worried about me?” I heard pleasure in his voice.
“Definitely I’m worried about you! You are my mate!” I lifted my head to glare at him. “Why else would I use my own blood to heal you?”
chapter Sixteen: Second Chance
“I thought you just wanted to heal as fast as you could and
leave me…” The alpha of the silver wolf pack sounded like at
guilty puppy.
I almost laughed with exasperation. I couldn’t believe he’d
always thought I just wanted to get away from him. “You wasted my blood.”
“I have to, or you’ll hurt yourself again next time.” His hand ran in circles on my back. “I don’t want you to sacrifice yourself and think that giving me your blood is the only solution to my problem.”
“But-”
“Listen, Samantha. I’m not dying,” he said with an easy smile. Please, Samantha. I need you to rest, relax, and heal. Is that too much to ask?”
We stared at each other in a painful silence while I shot him a black, layered look. Then he held my left hand and gave it a light squeeze.
“I need you more than ever. You’re my mate and I care about you. Would you stay with me and be my Luna? You’d be perfect, and I promise to find another solution to my problem. Taking your blood is wrong and dehumanizing. That’s why I need you to stop.”
Chapter Steen Second Chance
“You’re too stubborn for your own good,” I said and wiped my
tears aggressively. “You lied to me, yet expect me to believe every word you say. I was genuinely happy that you saved my
life. How would your reaction have been if I had refused your
help in the forest. On top of that you lied about your status.”
Theo’s eyes gleamed with an intensity I’d never witnessed
before, filled with remorse, like someone truly sorry for their
wrongdoing.
“I will never lie to you again, I promise you,” he said, crossing his
heart. “I promise that from now on, every word I say will be the
truth, and nothing but the truth.”
