chapter Twenty–Nine: Flirting with Danger
The room was silent as Theos words settled into the minds
of all those who were present. Even I had to take time to
comprehend what he had just said. While the other guest Alphas.
→ agreed with Theo’s demand, his threat was not well
received by the Dark Moon pack members.
My stepmother and Mia both looked as if they wanted to rip
Theo to shreds in front of everyone. My father, on the other
hand, was standing there with a look of shock on his face. None
of them moved until Daniel took it upon himself to try and
defend my father.
“How dare you make threats against the Alpha of the Dark Moon
pack!” he boomed as he hurried down to my father◆◆s side.
“Alpha of the Crescent Pack, you do not speak for the majority.”
“This crime happened in Alpha Erics territory. If he doesn
t want a chance to prove his innocence, I can recant my offer
and allow justice to be done here and now by the other pack.
leaders,” Theo replies coldly, eyes locked on Daniel while clearly
holding himself back.
Daniel started to move toward Theo, determined to teach him a
lesson, when my father held out his arm and stopped Daniel in

his tracks.
“I accept Alpha Cades offer. I will track down the murderer
and bring them to justice within three days,” my father
announced to the room.
I couldnt believe what I was hearing. What was Theo
thinking? He should be helping my father, not trying to destroy
him. I completely forgot I was supposed to be hiding my identity
and stepped into the aisle to defend my father.
“What are you doing?” Alex snapped as he pulled me back into
the group and out of sight.
“I can♦♦t stand by and let this happen! Its my
responsibility to
“No, it♦♦s not. You need to let Theo do this. He✪s helping
in the only way he can. Would you rather watch Alpha Eric get
ripped to shreds by these blood–thirsty Alphas?” he
snapped, reminding me that all the guests had just been calling
for my father◆◆s head.
“You need to all return to your rooms and remain on the
grounds until we figure this out,” my father notified before
leaving the room.
I stood by as the guests filed out, but I couldnt go back to
the room with Theo right now. I just needed to clear my mind.
and let my anger recede a little before seeing him again. Odds
are I would say things I didnt mean if I got him alone in the
room. Daniel had gone over to Theo and I took the opportunity.
to slip out the door with the other guests. Instead of heading up
to the room I decided to go to the infirmary and speak with the
physicians on duty.
If anyone could give me answers, it would be them. Having
grown up around poison I have an advantage over Theo. It
wouldn→→t take much proof to clear my father, I just needed
something. Theo had said he thought that the Dark Moon pack
was being framed, so what possessed him to call my father out.
like that and threaten the well–being of the entire pack? The
more I thought about it the angrier I got.
“Excuse me, but you shouldnt be over here,” a maid said as
I made my way down the hall.
I hurried past her without giving a reply.
“How rude,” she huffed before continuing down the hall.
Yes, rude. I needed to act the status I was trying to portray. I
was going to have a conversation with the physician, and if I
didnt want him figuring out who I was I needed to play the
part of an elite.
I barged into the infirmary. “I need to speak to the one in
charge, I demanded, deepening my voice and speaking with
authority.
One of the doctors I remember doing some of my blood draws
got up from his chair and walked over to me.
“Im in charge. What can I do for you?” he asked, staring at
my mask curiously.
“Im the Beta of the Crescent Pack. I was ordered by Alpha.
Theo to come and get any information I could about the
poisoning of Alpha Erics guest,” I ordered, not daring to
break eye contact with the doctor.
We had a bit of a staring contest before he relented and waved
me over to a table. The body of the guest is lying on a slab.
Dead bodies dont bother me, and it impresses the
physician that I didnt shy away.
“I told Alpha Eric what we knew. The poison used is common in
the Dark Moon pack. Its something called poison dust→→”
“Isn✪✪t that” I interrupted.
“What?” the doctor replied, tilting his head.
“I said, what is that?” I corrected, thinking quickly on my feet.

“Oh, its a poisonous powder thats thrown into the
targets face. Its then inhaled and causes the lungs to
fill up with water. It starves the body of oxygen and the victim
essentially drowns,” he explains, although I already knew all that.
“So the attack would have to be Lucid out by someone standing
nearby the victim?” I asked, already knowing the answer.
“Normally, yes, but the poison was administered differently. We
♦♦ve had a lot of cases like this lately, but this poor guy had
enough in his system to take out an army. Pack members have
come in complaining of an illness, and we just figured out it was
poison dust being mixed into their drinks. The liquid slowed the
effects of the dust and presented as a sickness rather than a
poisoning,” the doctor explained, sounding fascinated and
excited by the discovery.
“So you cant give me any new information that may clear
the Alpha◆◆s name?” I huffed.
“Well, there is one thing. The Alpha uses a special herb in the
pack poisons that indicates it came out of our lab.”
“And?” I asked as he paused.
“And the poison used to kill this guy doesnt have that herb
in it.”

I rushed out of the room without saying anything. Thats all I
needed to clear my fathers name. I ran down the hall and
up the staircase. I hadnt bothered to knock before swinging
open the door to Theos room. I froze at the sight of Mia
and Theo.
We stood there for what felt like ages, eyes locked, not saying a
word.
“You look very familiar,” Mia said, taking a step toward me.
Theo stepped in front of her and spoke to me over his shoulder.
“Go find Alex, now.”
I managed to close the door, keeping it open a crack so I could
hear what was going on. My heart was racing and I could hardly
hear a sound over my beating heart.
“You were saying?” Theo asked.
“It just makes sense,” Mia continued. “We should be mates. You
know, to unite the Red and Crescent Packs. Imagine how
powerful we would be. No other pack would dare threaten us,”
she replied seductively.
I wanted to die. Not again, not with Theo.
“You have a mate, the one that you chose,” Theo answered
chapter Twenty Nine Flirting with Danger
coldly.
“Il reject him. Daniel means nothing to me. He was a fun toy that I got bored with weeks ago,” she giggled.
I needed to stop this. There was no way I was going to let this
happen again.
“What are you doing out here?” a familiar voice asked.
I turned to find Daniel standing behind me. As my sister’s giggle
filled the air, Daniels eyes turned red. He shoved me out of
the way and pushed open the door to find a scantily dressed
Mia.
