chapter 31: A Bold Declaration
I hurried to his side, not caring if he recognized my eyes through
the mask, it wasn’t going to stop me from what I had planned.
out for tonight.
I let out a scoff at the thought, my face scrunching in disdain as I trudged forward. There was no way in hell that he could realize
who I was due to the poison flowing through him.
I had so many questions! How did this even happen to begin with! This poison had been banned immediately after I created it, so how did the intruders manage tk get their hands on it snd
leave it on the floor!
“Sa…Sa…Sam…” Alpha Eric stuttered.
My face twisted in confusion as I stared at himm Was he trying
to say my name Before he got the chance to speak again, my
stepmom and Mia rushed into the room with a crowd of people
behind them.
The attack had ended when the two assailants fled the building.
Could they have been the ones leading the raid
I stood up quickly, stepping away from my father and ignoring the raging thoughts coursing through me as I allowed Mia take
my place right where I stood.
“What happened to you” she cried, looking down at the Alphal
with tears in her eyes.
The poison had slowly began to take its effects inside my father as it coursed through him, already affecting his ability to speak.
He couldn’t reply in anything louder than a whisper as he
croaked out and his breathing had became labored. My heart
hurt, almost wrenching into two as I fought back a tear, knowing
that something I had created so many years ago had been used
against my father.
Theo stood next to me, his presence and warmth snsking
themselves around me in a cocoon, calming my anxiety and
helping me think clearly. My emotions were all over the place in
that moment, my insides churned and bile rose in my throat as I
had to force myself to take a step back from the situation.
“We need to get him to your pack doctor,” Alex announced as
everyone stood around gawking.
Daniel helped move my father to his study where one of the
pack doctors was already waiting. The members of the pack.
that had been injured in the conflict now gathered in the
infirmary, and the overflow was being treated in the study.
Once they entered with my father, all other pack members were
told they would have to wait until the Alpha had been treated.
The doctor had drawn blood and started treating Alpha Eric’s
symptoms. He was given oxygen and some injections that
calmed him down while we waited for the test results. My
stepmom had stayed by Father’s side, not allowing anyone to
move her.
“Don’t worry, dear, we will figure out who’s done this to you and
they will pay dearly,” she whispered.
My father’s eyes were fixated on me, watching me closely the
entire time we waited on the test. I tried to wedge myself
between Theo and Alex, as his steady stare made me nervous.
The last thing I needed was for him to blow my cover.
The doctor returned while and shook his head as he spoke, “It’s
been years, but I’ve seen this poison before. Unfortunately, this
concoction had been banned due to not having an antidote.”
“That just can’t be!” my stepmother hissed. “Run the test again, I
refuse to accept that explanation.”
“I’ve run it multiple times, hoping we were wrong, but it comes
out the same every time,” he replied, holding out a stack of
papers with the same red markings on them and waving it in
front of us.

“Well, who created such a weapon Find them so we can coax
the antidote from them,” Mia demanded as she dragged her
fingers through her hair, she was as agitated as the rest of us.
“That isn’t possible, either. There isn’t a lot of time to treat the
Alpha, and the one who created this poison is missing,” the
doctor explained.
I could feel Theo’s eyes on me as I shook my head in disbelief
and a muscle in his jaws ticked, hot and cold shivers chased
themselves down my spine at his respond. That was the answer
I had been dreading!
“Unfortunately, Samantha was the creator of this lethal weapon,”
the doctor added.
Mia and my stepmom gasped, their eyes widening at the
revelation and my heart tightened painfully in my chest when
the doctor simply confirmed what I already knew.
“She did this on purpose,” Mia growled when her gaze hardened
into a scowl, “She was probably the one behind all of this, that
treacherous little…”
“-Enough!” my father demanded with a hiss when his voice grew
loud as he spoke, “Samantha would never do such a thing, and
you know it.”
Mia halted her words, glaring at me even as my lips quivered in
fear and dismay. Had my father just stood up for me I fought
back a tear as I stared back at him in admiration.
Amid the shock, my thoughts drifted to my uncle. He was the
only other individual that I knew about, who still had a vial of the
poison.
“Conner,” my father whispered, mirroring my thoughts out loud.
A look of confusion washed over my stepmother’s face when
she glanced at him. “Your brother What about him ”
“Many years ago, Samantha had come up with a poison. My
brother had challenged her, you see, and she never backed
down from a task. He asked if she could create a poison with no
possible antidote, and she did. She was so proud, and I was.
proud of her. Samantha had a natural talent for creating poison,”
he said with an half–smile plastered on his face.
Mia sat beside my father, her anger growing at the amount of
pride the Alpha had shown toward me. She hated to see him
stand up for me and what the just did only made her hate me
the more.
“What Samantha hadn’t known is that my brother had been
using her. He saw her ability as a way to gain the title of Alpha by threatoning anyone who opposed him. I was lucky enough to
stop him before anyone could get hurt. My brother had been passed over and I was granted the title of Alpha. His violent.
reign of terror had ended. He decides to leave the pack, but
when he left, he took the poison with him,”
Father explained, his voice growing weak at the effects of the
venom coursing through him as he spoke.
Mia huffed, crossing her arms with a grimace on her face,
“Samantha was so simple she couldn’t even see that someone
was using her. She probably knew what he wanted it for the
whole time and was just playing dumb,” she whispered under
her breath.
Father opened his mouth to speak in attempts to reprimand her
for her words but failed.
Theo on the other hand, had no problem stepping in. The entire
room grew heavy with his overpowering aura and Mia quieted
herself quickly. My skin prickled under his intense aura and a
shiver racked through me when his powerful rage flew past me.
My half–sister shrank down in her seat, aware that what she had
said was not appropriate.
All of it had been true. I remembered Uncle Conner coming to
me and making a bet with me that I couldn’t create an ultimate
poison with no known cure.

I wanted to prove him wrong, to show him what I could do so I
worked tirelessly between my daily chores to try and come up.
with the perfect mixture, the poison that could kill all.
The implications of my actions hadn’t crossed my mind at that
age, I was too young to see the danger, too naive to see what he
had in mind.
Finding out my Uncle had planned on hurting people with the
poision I created caused made me sick, my legs nearly caved in
beneath me from the utter dilema.
How could Uncle Conner do such a thing! He had always been
the cool Uncle. He would always let me do whatever I wanted in
his presence as long as my parents never found out. To realize I
was betrayed by another member of the family I trusted had
been devastating.
I exhaled shakily when a glimmer of hope reared its head inside
of me and I mind–linked with Theo.
“I can come up with an antidote, I’m sure of it. The reason none
of the other chemists could find one is because I never told.
anyone the secret ingredient. I just need access to the lab and I
should be able to save my father,” I remarked, hoping I wasn’t
getting myself into something I couldn’t complete.
Theo nodded softly as his gaze softened and he acknowledged.

me when he stepped forward to address Alpha Eric. All their
gazes were now fixated on him when they turned their attention
to him.
They had no choice, that was the aura he carried around him
even without Theo having to verbalize it. His Alpha dominance
was astounding, almost causing me to gasp as he spoke.
“I will find an antidote for this poison, but I expect a favor in
return,” Theo declared to the entire room.
